CHANGE YOUR GARMENT Tuesday 3 July

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Colossians 3:10

Read: Colossians 3:8-10

After Elisha saw Elijah being taken away, he cried out. The next thing he did was to tear his clothes (2 Kings 2:12-14). Why did he do that? According to Colossians 3:8-10, you have to put off the old man before you can put on the new man. What constitutes the old man?

But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8

Sin is a type of clothing; righteousness is another type of clothing. Anyone who wears the garment of sin will be clothed in shame but the one who wears righteousness will be clothed in God’s glory. When Adam sinned, he lost his robe of righteousness and God’s glory was lifted from him. When Jesus came, He came to take away our rags and being full of God’s glory, anyone who wears Him will be covered in His glory. The truth is that as long as you put on a cloak of sin, you will not be attractive for God’s use. Elisha realised the enormity of a new walk with God he was embarking on and he immediately tore his rags so that he could put on the new man. He was very wise.

There are some people who are being proposed for a higher spiritual assignment yet they will make no serious preparation. That is foolishness. A minister of God was being nominated by his pastor for ordination some years ago. When the time the list released, his name was on it so he went to tell his pastor he saw his name on the list. The pastor told him that although he sent his name, he will not advise him to be ordained that year, going by certain shady things involving the brother, but he insisted on being ordained. He was therefore told to go into a period of fasting and prayer. Later the Pastor learnt that this brother was busy watching home video during the time he should be fasting. Ordination came and he was ordained a deacon. He took the next Sunday message and all hell broke loose. His creditors started looking for him in order to arrest him. That was how he ran away from church. Anytime God is about to take you higher, it is a time to examine your garment and destroy it if it is stained with sin.

KEY POINT:
Are you yearning for promotion? What are the practical evidence of your preparation? Ordination adds value only to the prepared.

Bible in one year: Leviticus 8-10

Comments

  1. The changing of our garments of sin for the garment of righteousness is a pre requisite for breakthrough. Jacob understood this clearly when he requested his entire household to change their garment. Gen 35;2. No wonder God blessed and increased him. Gen 35; 9-12
May the Lord grant us the grace to keep our garments unspotted. Amaechi

BENEFITS OF UNITY Sunday 27 November

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) READ: Acts 2:1-4 U nity is a powerful force in the universe. However, uniting against God, His Word or His children causes God to arise in defence of His Name. This is the other side of power of unity. Barring this, unity can accomplish almost anything on the face of the earth. In Genesis 11:5-6, God said that if the people of the earth were left with one language and as united as they were in building the city and tower, they will be unstoppable. The united are unstoppable. Unity is a powerful tool for achieving plans and purposes. But if operated in righteousness within the Christian fold, it is even more powerful. “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it sha

YOUR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD Wednesday 26 October

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44). READ: Psalm 18:43-45 W hen Bartimaeus was steps away from his breakthrough, the crowd around him shouted him down. But by the grace of God, he doubled his efforts and cried out the more. He simply told the crowd: ‘If you think you have heard noise you have not heard anything yet’. The reality is that if you need help and send a faint cry in the midst of a crowd, they will want to shut you up. But if your cry is unparalleled, defying the voices of the opposition, there would be a general consensus by the crowd for you to be attended to, at least so that they can have their peace. This season, by the mercy of God, there will be a meeting of the crowd hindering your blessing and their consensus would be that you receive immediate attention. Another lesson from this story is that while peop
