HOUSE FELLOWSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT Saturday 7 January

Memorise: Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. Colossians 4:15

READ: Colossians 4:14-18

In Paul’s epistles to the brethren at Colosse, he specifically identified Bro. Nymphas who had a house fellowship in his house.

Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. Colossians 4:15

Although the early church met regularly at the temple, synagogues and other places for large congregational meetings, they did not fail to meet in smaller units such as in members’ houses where they fellowshipped together. God is pleased with such gatherings and therefore recognises certain blessings from members of house fellowships, house fellowship leaders and members. God reserves certain blessings for members of house fellowships. Observe that Paul did not underrate the operation of house fellowship leaders and members. God reserves certain blessings for members of house fellowships. Observe that Paul did not underrate the operation of house fellowships in the church at Colosse. Beloved, learn from this that the success or otherwise of the house fellowship in your local assembly lies to a large extent on the church leadership. If the pastor takes it as a non-issue, the members will do the same. If the ministers refuse to attend house fellowship, church members will follow suit. The attitude of church leaders to house fellowship will determine to a large extent whether house-caring centres will succeed or not. What is your attitude to the house fellowship in your church?

Even though there were several house fellowship centres, the one in Bro. Nymphas’ house stood out for Paul to have mentioned it. Are you a house fellowship leader or host? What are you doing to make your centre stand out? Another Bible character that would not joke with house fellowship is Peter. After he was released from prison in Acts 12:1-17, his first point of call was the house fellowship at the house of John Mark’s mother, where members were probably taking turns in interceding for him until they secured his release. When he got there, he was not disappointed as the house leader had declared prayers for their pastor. Never underrate prayers said in house fellowship! The house fellowship is a very important arm of the body of Christ, every believer should therefore be an active member in one of them. As you do so, God will recognize and bless you.

ACTION POINT:
Prayerfully select a house fellowship around where you live and become a committed member there. Also pray that all house fellowship centres worldwide will be locations of God’s power and presence.

BENEFITS OF UNITY Sunday 27 November

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) READ: Acts 2:1-4 U nity is a powerful force in the universe. However, uniting against God, His Word or His children causes God to arise in defence of His Name. This is the other side of power of unity. Barring this, unity can accomplish almost anything on the face of the earth. In Genesis 11:5-6, God said that if the people of the earth were left with one language and as united as they were in building the city and tower, they will be unstoppable. The united are unstoppable. Unity is a powerful tool for achieving plans and purposes. But if operated in righteousness within the Christian fold, it is even more powerful. “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it sha

YOUR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD Wednesday 26 October

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44). READ: Psalm 18:43-45 W hen Bartimaeus was steps away from his breakthrough, the crowd around him shouted him down. But by the grace of God, he doubled his efforts and cried out the more. He simply told the crowd: ‘If you think you have heard noise you have not heard anything yet’. The reality is that if you need help and send a faint cry in the midst of a crowd, they will want to shut you up. But if your cry is unparalleled, defying the voices of the opposition, there would be a general consensus by the crowd for you to be attended to, at least so that they can have their peace. This season, by the mercy of God, there will be a meeting of the crowd hindering your blessing and their consensus would be that you receive immediate attention. Another lesson from this story is that while peop
