EXIT ROUTE FROM FAMINE Friday 4 March

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Ps. 119:105)

READ: 1 Kings 17:1-3

Economy-based famines can be provoked through covenant-breaking and bloodshed. Yet, they can be atoned for. In any way you have brought about a famine upon yourself or your land, the Lord will have mercy as you repent today. Moreover, in 1 Kings 17:1-10, the Bible records a famine in the days of Elijah. “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word” (1 Kings 17:1). From this account, another cause of economic famine is idolatry and forsaking the commandment of the living God (1 Kings 18:17-18). Anytime you ignore God’s instructions, you invite the heavens over you to be shut. Putting your trust in other gods can also shut your heavens and bring untold hardship to you. Is there an area in your life where God’s Word is still ignored? Repent today and immediately go ahead to obey.

Moreover, we learn another lesson from this encounter with famine: that God has a survival plan for every famine. No famine takes God unawares. Before it came, God was there. During the famine, God is there and after it, God will still be there. Famines cannot diminish God or His provisions. Immediately after the proclamation of a famine in the land, God’s way of escape was suddenly revealed. “And the Word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan” (1 Kings 17:23). Elijah did not go anywhere until He heard from God. Are you going through a famine? Have you taken time to seek God’s face on the way out, or are you running ahead of God’s direction? God’s Word will show you the way of escape if you pay the price. God has a well-thought-out plan to help you overcome that famine. Have you received the plan? Are you following it? Some believers receive God’s way-out of the famine, but refuse to follow it because it seems stupid to them. If Elijah had not gone to the brook Cherith, he would have starved. If you abandon God’s provision, you will starve. Ask God for His way-out of famine today!

PRAYER POINT:
Your exit from famine is embedded in god’s Word. Father, show me the way out of my present famine situation.

BENEFITS OF UNITY Sunday 27 November

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) READ: Acts 2:1-4 U nity is a powerful force in the universe. However, uniting against God, His Word or His children causes God to arise in defence of His Name. This is the other side of power of unity. Barring this, unity can accomplish almost anything on the face of the earth. In Genesis 11:5-6, God said that if the people of the earth were left with one language and as united as they were in building the city and tower, they will be unstoppable. The united are unstoppable. Unity is a powerful tool for achieving plans and purposes. But if operated in righteousness within the Christian fold, it is even more powerful. “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it sha

YOUR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD Wednesday 26 October

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44). READ: Psalm 18:43-45 W hen Bartimaeus was steps away from his breakthrough, the crowd around him shouted him down. But by the grace of God, he doubled his efforts and cried out the more. He simply told the crowd: ‘If you think you have heard noise you have not heard anything yet’. The reality is that if you need help and send a faint cry in the midst of a crowd, they will want to shut you up. But if your cry is unparalleled, defying the voices of the opposition, there would be a general consensus by the crowd for you to be attended to, at least so that they can have their peace. This season, by the mercy of God, there will be a meeting of the crowd hindering your blessing and their consensus would be that you receive immediate attention. Another lesson from this story is that while peop
