USEFUL OLD AGE Tuesday 6 September

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.” (Titus 2:2).

READ: Exodus 3:1-10

God can use the rejects and those of low social standing. He can also use babes and suckling. Matthew 19:14 says: “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven”. Each time you deny your children the opportunity of fellowshipping with Jesus, you deny yourself a heavenly experience. Whenever children fellowship with their Saviour Jesus Christ, Heaven comes down. If you want to encounter Heaven and angelic visitations, do not neglect children who can praise God well.

Besides children, God can also use the aged. Contrary to the opinion of many, no one is too old for God to use. If you do not share my sentiments, ask Moses. When he thought of preparing for retirement at the age of 80, he got the greatest shock of his life. God was just set to begin with him (Exo. 3:1-15) and that assignment took him another 40 years! Even when he had to compulsorily retire, it was not because God was through with him but because he had engaged himself in certain things he should never have. But for this, God was still ready to use him as far as possible.

If you are below 120 years, God can use you. As long as you are not tired of serving Him, the Lord will not retire you. One benefit of the aged in God’s service is that they are no longer distracted by youthful lusts, and as a result, are more focused on God. If you are over 70 years, you must be actively engaged in serving God. Your vision must shift from an earthly one to a heavenly one. Such an age is not the time to be struggling to build houses, buy cars, or amassing wealth. Your old age is time to instill the fear of God, love Him out of sincere heart and serve Him with undivided attention. It is a time to prepare for Heaven, making your ways right with anyone who has offended you or anyone whom you have offended. The elders who harbor unforgiving spirit, bitterness and grudges are to be most pitied as they are making their eternal reservations in hell. Old age is the time to work towards a great reward in Heaven by wining lots of souls into God’s Kingdom. It is also a time to be a role model for the youths. Dear elders, how are you spending your days?

KEY POINT: The lifestyle of an elder should speak of Heaven. Does your life point others to Heaven? Be heaven conscious.

BENEFITS OF UNITY Sunday 27 November

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) READ: Acts 2:1-4 U nity is a powerful force in the universe. However, uniting against God, His Word or His children causes God to arise in defence of His Name. This is the other side of power of unity. Barring this, unity can accomplish almost anything on the face of the earth. In Genesis 11:5-6, God said that if the people of the earth were left with one language and as united as they were in building the city and tower, they will be unstoppable. The united are unstoppable. Unity is a powerful tool for achieving plans and purposes. But if operated in righteousness within the Christian fold, it is even more powerful. “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it sha

YOUR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD Wednesday 26 October

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44). READ: Psalm 18:43-45 W hen Bartimaeus was steps away from his breakthrough, the crowd around him shouted him down. But by the grace of God, he doubled his efforts and cried out the more. He simply told the crowd: ‘If you think you have heard noise you have not heard anything yet’. The reality is that if you need help and send a faint cry in the midst of a crowd, they will want to shut you up. But if your cry is unparalleled, defying the voices of the opposition, there would be a general consensus by the crowd for you to be attended to, at least so that they can have their peace. This season, by the mercy of God, there will be a meeting of the crowd hindering your blessing and their consensus would be that you receive immediate attention. Another lesson from this story is that while peop
