Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
MEMORIZE: “So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isa. 59:19).
READ: Isaiah 59:17-19
Before God came to Samson’s rescue, his captors first rejoiced over him. Such scenarios make people think that God is a late comer. No, He is not! Psalm 46:1 says He is a present help. That means, when you need Him, He will be there. God responds more to our needs and not necessarily our wants. Most of our wants are misplaced, selfish, fleshly, and may even be detrimental. When a young school leaver cries to God for an SUV, do you want God to yield to his request? But when a SUV becomes a need, God will oblige the requester. Until now, many believers are asking to receive today what God will give them in 10 years time. Remember that just as you have set a particular time to achieve certain things, so also has God a plan for each of His children. If you are wise, you will allow yours to blend with God’s, and not the other way round.
“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isa. 59:19). God may wait for the enemy to come on His children like a flood, but He will ensure that the flood does not swallow them. If you are truly a child of God, no flood can swallow you. The fire will come but you shall not be burnt. Take for instance the three Hebrew children in Daniel 3:19-25. When they were being bound, God was looking. When they were heating the fiery furnace seven times beyond normal, God did nothing. When the mighty men were carrying them in order to hurl them into the fire, God did not say anything. Then came God’s moment of action! Just before they landed in the fire, they met Him already waiting for them. At the peak of your trial God is waiting for you. At the height of that sorrow, the Lord is waiting. Never think that you will not survive. God will not allow you to go under. Just before you descend to your deepest depth, the Lord will be waiting. Just before you move into the doldrums, the Lord will be waiting. He is ahead just in time to salvage you from the enemy’s worst. The Lord shall deliver you. You shall not sink. The Lord shall be waiting for you, to give you the reverse of your enemy’s expectations.
KEY POINT
If God allows you to go through the flood or fire, it is because He has already made preparations for you to come out unscathed.
