“And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink” (Ex. 2:3). The story of the birth of Moses is quite an interesting one. We learn from this story that in every divine assignment, God has His part and you have yours. God expects you to do yours before He does His. Here, Jochebed, Moses’, mother, hid the baby Moses for a period until it was no longer safe to do so. In other words, she exhausted her efforts. God may expect you to exhaust your efforts before He takes over. Your failure to do what you should can delay divine intervention. Until you exhaust your efforts, God may refuse to show up. To get an answer on that nagging issue, you can pray some more. You can fast some more. You can give some more. One reason many believers fail to experience divine intervention is because they have not even spent half of their abilities. Closely allied to this fact is that whenever you reach the limits of your ability, know it is time for God to take over. Have you exhausted all your ability, wisdom and resources? The Lord will show up suddenly and turn around your situation for good in Jesus name.
Another issue here borders on security. Jochebed protected Moses for three months and then God took over. Do you know that some people think it is sin to take even a few steps in securing themselves? No, it is not! It is not a sin to install burglary proof in your house or church, or employ the services of security personnel. In fact, these days, churches should be more security-conscious. Anti-fire and anti-burglary measures should be in place. Secure your files in good fireproof cabinets. You can also insure your assets and thereby share the risks involved. There is nothing wrong with taking a life (assurance) policy. Taking it does not mean that you are about to die. What is important in all of this is while taking such security measures, let your heart remain set on the Lord. He is the one who uses these measures to serve you. It is sin to stop placing your trust in God and put it in something that man has designed.
