Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
MEMORIZE: “And when Saul Enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.” (1 Sam. 28:6).
READ: 1Samuel 28:3-7
There are three major types of famine: economic famine; spiritual famine; a combination of both. A victim of economic famine is easily identified. Such a fellow usually lacks food and drink or other means of physical survival. But one suffering from spiritual famine may not be easily identified until he or she takes a wrong step and ends up at wrong destination destruction. It is a very serious thing when word meant for your spiritual sustenance becomes very scarce. If you used to hear God’s voice but He no longer speaks to you today, you are suffering from spiritual famine. A victim of spiritual famine cannot access divine direction. He or she gropes about as one in darkness. The soul of such a fellow is starved while his spirit man becomes lean. Such a fellow is separated from the true Helper—the Almighty God, and easily becomes a prey to the enemy. The spiritual sensitivity of a victim of spiritual famine is very low. The fresh and mundane things have crowded it out. For such a fellow, there is no spiritual energy to run the Christian race let alone the desire to handle kingdom assignments. He or she may end up in an undesired destination. Are you a victim of spiritual famine? Cry out to God for restoration today!
One person who was physically comfortable but suffered spiritual famine was King Saul. In his dealings with God, King Saul proved to be a man who could never totally submit or completely obey God. At some point, the Lord rejected him. But when he needed help the most, he ran back to God. 1 Samuel 28:6 says, “And when Saul require of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets”. To King Saul, all heavenly avenues of communication were closed. That was real spiritual famine! When he could not hear from God, he felt the pangs of divine rejection and began to seek hell’s communication channels. If all avenues of communicating with Heaven are closed for a period of time, you are suffering from spiritual famine. Going to Satan for guidance or direction cannot help you. Immediately retrace your steps to God in humility, repentance and restitution. Your broken link with heaven shall be restored to impact your world! Are you allowing your challenges limit you?
KEY POINT:
You must never allow anything to interfere with your communication lines to heaven or you will be lost.
