CHILDREN ARE ASSETS Wednesday 19 January

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “But Jesus said, suffer little children and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14).

READ: Matthew 19:13-15

In God’s kingdom, those the world classify as rejects and unusable are very useful. In fact, God delights in bringing disadvantaged persons into their most glorious moments. The Lord will not leave you until His glory radiates all over you this season. God uses those of low status—housemaids, houseboys, cleaners, drivers, etc. Furthermore, God has no age limits regarding those He uses. He uses youngsters; you are not too young to be used by God. Samuel was still a child when God began to speak with him and use him as a prophet “But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod” (1 Sam. 2:18). He was more or less a baby priest. God is glorified with sacrifices and offerings of little children. No wonder, when the chief priests and scribes tried to stop the children from praising God, He resisted them.

“And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?” (Matt. 21:16). Do you know that due to the innocence of babies, they are capable of offering the most sincere and most qualitative praise to God? God loves to hear children praise Him. If you want qualitative offerings and sacrifices given to God, engage your children. Unfortunately, some parents keep their children from fellowship or prayers. A minister of God once said he prays with his wife but keeps their five-year-old daughter away so as not to ‘disturb’ their prayer! Oh, how ignorant he is! Do you know that babes and sucklings communicate faster and directly with Heaven? If you want faster answers to your prayers, solicit the active participation of your children. Do you know that God sometimes answers your prayers, not because you prayed right, but because of your children—God’s heritage? This was what happened to Hagar and her child Ishmael (Gen. 21:14-19). God understand babies. He is not disturbed by their noise and playfulness but fellowships with them at such moments. Anyone who keeps his or her children from God is ignorant and denying himself or herself great blessings from the heavenly kingdom. God can use your children to direct you and to deliver divine messages to you. Make your children, God’s treasures, your assets today.

KEY POINT:
Jesus loves children. Do not keep them from him.

Bible in One year: 1 Sam. 1-3

IDOLS FRUSTRATE EXPECTATIONS Monday 27 August

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. Proverbs 10:28 Read: Isaiah 44:10-18 B efore you receive a prophetic declaration, check out the fruit of the vessel-the prophet, pastor, or servant of God, whether the fellow is still in league with God. Some people say, “thus says the Lord,” but the Lord did not say anything to them. Some of them heard from themselves and spoke. Be careful of what you accept as being from God. In Jeremiah 28:1-4, Hananiah a prophet prophesied that in two years God was going to set Israel free from the yoke of the king of Babylon, but it was all a lie! Imagine the joy of the people when they heard that. But after two years, and the prophecy did not come to pass, all the expectations of the people failed. Instead of two years, they spent 70 years. In others, the prophetic lies of prophets cannot change what God want to do or alter its tim...

YOUR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD Wednesday 26 October

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye MEMORIZE: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44). READ: Psalm 18:43-45 W hen Bartimaeus was steps away from his breakthrough, the crowd around him shouted him down. But by the grace of God, he doubled his efforts and cried out the more. He simply told the crowd: ‘If you think you have heard noise you have not heard anything yet’. The reality is that if you need help and send a faint cry in the midst of a crowd, they will want to shut you up. But if your cry is unparalleled, defying the voices of the opposition, there would be a general consensus by the crowd for you to be attended to, at least so that they can have their peace. This season, by the mercy of God, there will be a meeting of the crowd hindering your blessing and their consensus would be that you receive immediate attention. Another lesson from this story is that while peop...
