Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
Memorise: A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,
and I will give you an heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26
Read: Ezekiel 36:25-27
Several years ago, when the founder of The Redeemed
Christian Church of God was still alive, I travelled from Ilesa to Lagos (South
west Nigeria) and decided to pay him a visit. I lived somewhere in Surulere, Lagos
State. While driving towards my destination, I suddenly recalled that I must
not go empty-handed to my father in the Lord. So I bought some oranges on the
way and presented them to him. Possibly because of his love for me, he decided
to take them immediately. As he did so, he noted that the oranges were sweet
and asked if I bought them on my way. I answered yes, but soon realised he
meant whether I bought them while travelling from Ilesa to Lagos. Immediately,
my heart started condemning me that I lied. Initially, I resisted its
promptings by saying it did not matter where I bought them as long as Baba
enjoyed them. But would this heart of flesh stop? When I had no peace, I
cleared my throat and confessed to him that I bought them at Surulere not Ilesa,
Baba looked at me and said, “Holy Spirit”.
In another instance, while I was still a lecturer at the
University of Lagos, I wrote a private letter and wanted to insert it into an
official envelop but my heart stopped me. Even when I asked, “How much does an
envelope cost anyway?” the voice asked me rather to go and buy my own. How
alive or sensitive is your heart? When you arrive at your office at 9:00am but
record 7:30am, does your heart prick you? When you take your spouse’s money
with the intention of not informing him or her, does your heart prick you? When
you ask or receive gratification (bribe) for official duties you perform, does
your heart prick you?
PRAYER POINT:
Father, circumcise my heart and make it yielded to the voice
of your Spirit.
Bible in one year: Deuteronomy 7-9
